ABOUT EASSW

European Association of Schools of Social Work and Social Work Educators

  • EASSW is the European independent branch of the IASSW and brings together about 300 different schools, universities and institutions supporting social work education.
  • Its mission is to promote social development and develop high quality education, training and knowledge for social work practice, social services, and social welfare policies in Europe.
  • In fulfilling its mission the EASSW adheres to all United Nations’ Declarations and Conventions on human rights, recognizing that respect for the inalienable rights of the individual is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace.
  • Members of EASSW are united in their obligation to the continued pursuit of social justice and social development. In carrying out its mission EASSW fosters cooperation, collegiality, and interdependence among its members and with others.
  • The Association represents and promotes the interest of social work education on the European level, it contributes to the academic and international development of social work and social work education and it provides a European forum for its members.

GOALS

The EASSW pursues its goals through the following

  • Biennial European congresses on actual themes of social work and social development, expert group meetings.
  • Assistance for European exchange programmes of member schools, for creating of curricula development and implementation of new schools in social work (i.e. in Eastern Europe), for developing European networks and research projects.
  • Activities as representatives of social work education on the European community level and in European NGOs.

STRUCTURE and ADMINISTRATION

Administration

The EASSW is governed by

  • The General Assembly, comprising all members and taking place biennially.
  • The Executive Committee, including
  • President
  • Vice-President
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary general is in charge of translating the direction of the General Assembly into action and of the day-to-day operations and administration.

Finances

The activities of EASSW are financed through

  • Membership fees, paid on an annual basis and according to the amount specified by the General Assembly.
  • Subsidies and grants
  • Projects and consultations
  • Inheritances and gifts
  • Sale of publications
  • Registration fees at seminars, workshops, congresses.

MEMBERSHIP

The membership of the European Association shall be composed of those engaged in social work education such as

  • National Associations of Schools of Social Work
  • Sub-Regional Associations of Schools of Social Work
  • Individual Schools of Social Work
  • Individual teachers of Social Work Education in those countries where there is no formal membership of schools or national organisations.

Membership is possible only for the above mentioned categories, which provide post-secondary educational programmes that prepare for professional social work and which have met the standards authorized by each country.
