Self-Care is an important component of social work practice, it is integral to preventing or assuaging burnout, vicarious trauma, and professional stress, can help deal with burnout. Self-Care has also been linked to professional self-efficacy is instrumental to providing quality services to clients.
First Self-Care Lab in Europe was established in June 2023 at Institute of Educology and Social Work, Faculty of Arts, University of Prešov (IESP FF PU), Slovakia – member universities of European Association of Schools of Social Work. Self-Care Lab is specifically dedicated to empirically investigating self-care among helping professionals. IESP FF PU is also one of establishers of Global Self-Care Initiative - international research, carried since 2018, focuses on the Self-Care of social workers in various countries of the world.
The main aim of this Special Interest Group is to support and empirically investigating Self-are among social workers and social work educators. Establish cross-cultural partnerships between universities focused on development Self-Care practice as a part of pre-gradual and post-gradual education in social work. Organise biennial the International scientific symposium on the topic of Self-Care in Social Work. Conduct Self-Care workshops and training for social workers and social work students.
